SilverScript

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1:
What is the benefit of enrolling in SilverScript?
A1:
If you enroll in SilverScript you can save money each month on your Wellmark Premium. Depending on what plan you are in, and what coverage level you have you can save $142.90 up to $676.33 per month on your Wellmark premium in 2010. Even when you factor in the SilverScript premium of $55.00 per Medicare-eligible individual, you still save money with the reduction in the Wellmark health plan premium. The premium savings on your Wellmark plan is the reason to enroll in SilverScript. There are no changes to your prescription plan if you enroll in SilverScript. You will still have your same prescription plan as you have had before. You will still have your same copays, out-of-pocket maximum if you have Iowa Select or Program 3 Plus and you still have Wellmark’s formulary.

Q2:
How do I enroll with SilverScript?
A2:

You may enroll with SilverScript when you first become Medicare-eligible or during the annual enrollment and change period. The easiest way to enroll in SilverScript is over the phone. SilverScript’s enrollment number is: 1-866-808-7475.

You may also enroll if you are age 65 or are eligible for Medicare at the time of your retirement.

You must enroll in SilverScript before the month you want coverage to be effective.

Q3:
Do I have to enroll in SilverScript?
A3:

No, SilverScript is a voluntary benefit that you can add to your existing Wellmark health plan.

Q4:
Why is SilverScript not available with the Deductible 3 Plus health insurance plan?
A4:
SilverScript is not available with Deductible 3 Plus because of the way that Deductible 3 Plus processes prescriptions drugs claims. In order for you to have SilverScript, you need to be in a Wellmark plan that has a copay system to pay for prescriptions.

Q5:
Can I cancel my SilverScript coverage?
A5:
You may cancel your enrollment with SilverScript during the annual enrollment and change period (November 15 - December 31) by calling their customer service at 1-800-678-1853.

Q6:
Why has my Wellmark premium not decreased even though I signed up for SilverScript?
A6:
SilverScript sends a report to Wellmark each week of individuals that have enrolled in SilverScript. The timing of the SilverScript's report and Wellmark's premium invoice are not always in sync. The difference in premiums usually happens the first month that your coverage is effective with SilverScript. If Wellmark has billed you for the Medicare-eligible premium without SilverScript, they will retroactively credit your bill for the next month.

Q7:
When I went to the pharmacy I believe I was incorrectly billed for my prescriptions, as it was not a $5/$15/$30 (or 25% whichever is higher for Blue Access or Blue Advantage) copay that they asked me to pay. What do I do to fix a prescription problem?
A7:
The first thing you can do is while at the pharmacy make sure that you have given the pharmacist your SilverScript card and your Wellmark card. In order for your claims to be run correctly, the SilverScript card needs to be run first and then the Wellmark card as secondary coverage. If your pharmacist is having problems running two cards, they can call Wellmark pharmacy at the number on the back of your Wellmark card. Wellmark will then be able to help them process your prescriptions correctly. If you are still having problems with your prescriptions, you can call Rachel Orris with the Department of Administrative Services, Human Resources Enterprise at 1-515-281-6124 and she can work with you to get the problem solved.

Q8:
Is there a deductible that I need to meet?
A8:
No, there is no deductible that you have to meet. Wellmark pays the deductible for you because you have the state’s health insurance plan along with SilverScript. You just pay your $5/$15/$30 (or 25% whichever is higher for Blue Access or Blue Advantage) copays from the start.

Q9:
How does SilverScript bill me for the premium?
A9:
SilverScript will send you a paper bill for the first month. They bill in arrears, so the bill will come late in the month for that month's payment. On the back of this bill are directions on how to set up an automatic deduction from a bank account or credit card.

Q10:
If I join SilverScript, is that considered leaving the state retiree group?
A10:
No, joining SilverScript is just considered an addition to your existing Wellmark health plan. You will still have your state of Iowa retiree group health insurance plan.

Q11:
Why do I get letters that say I have a true out of pocket max of an amount over what I thought my out of pocket max was for prescriptions?
A11:
If you are in the Program 3 Plus or Iowa Select plan you have an out of pocket max of $250 for prescriptions for single coverage and $500 for family coverage. When you receive that letter, it can be disregarded. SilverScript sends out generic letters to all of their members showing what your drug costs are throughout the year. These letters are not applicable to state of Iowa retirees in SilverScript, as they do not show what Wellmark has paid for your prescriptions.

Q12:
What number do I call for customer service for SilverScript?
A12:
SilverScript’s customer care number is 1-800-678-1853. When you call please identify yourself as a state of Iowa retiree.

Q13:
Can I be enrolled in SilverScript outside of Iowa and still have it coordinate benefits with my Wellmark plan with the state’s retiree group?
A13:
Yes, you can be enrolled in SilverScript and have it coordinate pharmacy benefits with your Wellmark plan outside of Iowa.
