2010 Enrollment and Change

Summary: The 2010 enrollment and change period will be from October 23, 2009, through November 23, 2009. In 2010, there will be a "freeze" on “freeze” on employee-required premiums for family health insurance coverage during the first six months of the year, open dental enrollment and a benefit enhancement for AFSCME-covered, Non-Contract and PPME-covered employees to increase the maximum amount of supplemental term life insurance from a current maximum of $50,000 to $100,000.

The presentation is an overview of health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance and flexible spending accounts benefits.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Overview

Summary: The Employee Assistance Program is a confidential, professional service to help you and your family members find solutions for workplace and personal problems. Services include assistance for family and marital concerns, legal or financial problems, elder care, substance abuse, emotional stress issues and daily living concerns.

EAP services are provided by Employee and Family Resources (EFR). Nathan Brooks from EFR will present an overview of the services provided by EFR.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Summary: An overview of Flexible Spending Accounts or FSAs is presented. FSA can provide employees with tax savings on health and dependent care expenses by allowing them to be reimbursed for those expenses with before-tax dollars. FSAs are a way for employees to pay less in taxes and increase their disposable income.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Summary: Long-term care includes a variety of services and supports that help people with health or personal needs and activities of daily living over a period of time. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), 60 percent of people over 65 will need some type of long-term care. Long-term care can be very expensive. Medicare and most health insurance plans, including Medigap policies (Medicare supplemental insurance), do not cover long-term care. The average cost for nursing home care in Iowa is about $4,200 a month per HHS. The cost can reach approximately $50,000 a year, or more. People who receive long-term care services at home spend an average of $1,600 a month.

 

Jason Cooper from the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) will discuss long-term care insurance and help you to understand long-term care and the insurance options available to protect you from the cost of long-term care services.

RIC Provider Bid Results

Summary:
This will be a brief discussion regarding the recent selection of RIC active investment providers for 2010 and beyond. Hartford, ING, Security Benefit, TIAA-CREF, and VALIC will all offer investments and services to RIC participants beginning 1-1-2010. Most participants will not see much change in their current investments. Participants with Nationwide will need to open new accounts before January 2010 to continue contributing after December 2009.
